I really like to use the Longswords for super damage per second, for the gameplay perspective...Plus you look like a total badass when you have spirit all charged and start linking combos like theres no tomorrow, sending fellow hunters and monsters thrpugh the air alike! Its a rush ^_^

But because of the people I hunt with, the hammer is easily my second favourite since whenever I use it it tends to stagger the enemy and crush defences in seconds. Literally sending my comrades over cliffs with a gentle swing has also earned my hammers nick name "Ban Hammer"

I just couldnt bring myself to vote hammer, heh, while I love the crushing effect it has on most enemies I dont really like how vulnerable I feel doing the charge attack that it has. I almost always get tail swiped or charged during the 15 seconds of spinning.

The longsword on the other hand is fast and even if you get caught up in a combo you can easily dive to the left or right when something tries to take a bite/swipe at you.

yup thats true...
i absolutely HATE the spinning attack and never do it... at least not on purpose but sometimes i accidentally move, so i spin... makes me mad lol

Well, if you hate one major aspect of your favourite weapon, how can you really say its your favourite?

One last thing: I like to use gunlances when I can too, simply because they're what I started the game with and they carried me through most of the first and second level missions that the old lady gives. Sadly, the fact that they dont tell you how much damage the gunshot does really turned me off to them and the items needed to make better gunlances was just too rare for me to bother with. Now I here that in the future they're going to be removed completely, which is understandable, but kind of disappointing

nah it's not a major aspect! there are actually only 2 or 3 attacks i do with hammer:
3x triangle, circle, 3x triangle, and R-Charge (WITHOUT MOVING)!
there are monsters i like to fight with the spinning attack though... i think nargacuga for example...

long sword all the way it can cut off tails and it is very fast and powerful but hammers are my 2 but i can't use them so i stick with the long sword

sword and shield is fast and letal

if i do not feel like using it, i use a greatsword
