PostSubject: Long Range Weapons 101-Class is in session!   Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:32 am

Ok, so this is a guide for gunners. It is i, your esteemed instructor! I will show you how to master your bowgun/bow in this step-by-step guide.

PS: Results may vary

Bow
-The bow is a long-ranged cutting weapon. It is best to be at medium-long range, just to make sure you can evade. Bring ALL the coatings that your bow can use. But make sure those effects are possible for the monster!
Using a bow means that you must know the weak point of a monster and their elemental weaknesses. You must be quick, or else... :tiggy: :omgrun:

Bows may be imbued w/ elemental powers, just like all the melee weapons. This is very useful when facing monsters weak to certain elements.

Bows are able to do a melee attack, but it is not recommended unless the target monster is in a trap (shock trap if possible, you can use the melee attack to cut of tails)

Bows do not run out of ammo, unlike bowguns. So you do not have to worry about running out of arrows.

When upgrading bows, it is still the same w/ melee weapons, using monster material, ores etc.

PS: Bows are not recommended for beginner hunters, but for more experienced ones!

Light Bowgun
-The Light Bowgun, like the bow, i light and easy to use. You can run with it at the ready w/c is crucial. I suggest being at medium-long range, so you may evade. Just like the bow, bring all the best ammo you can.
It will be worth bringing them. Just like the bow, you must now all the weak points and elemental weaknesses of the target monster.

The bullets that you use may be imbued w/ elements. But, you will run out of most bullets. The only ammo that doesn't run out is Normal S Lv1. Unlike most weapons, Light bowguns are inferior in terms of attack power, but in turn, gives you great mobility.

When upgrading bowguns, all you need is money. But only a few upgrades can be added at a time. You can also add a zoom scope, to help you lock on the target more easily.

To help you not get hit, it is best to locate for ledges that you can climb on so that you may not get hit easily.
This also applies w/ the bow.

Another feature that the Light bowgun boasts is Rapid Fire. It is basically firing multiple shots in one...bullet?
I really can't explain this. But it is firing multiple shots, useful for trapped monsters

Heavy Bowgun
-The heavy bowgun is the opposite of it's counterpart. It is heavy, thus greatly decreasing your mobility. But, in turn, boasts superior attack power. I suggest being at medium-close range due to the speed of this weapon.
Bring all the best ammo, it will be worth bringing.

When upgrading, you may add a shield that will enable to Auto-Guard skill, w/c is very useful for fast monsters.

Unlike Light bowguns, Heavy bowguns cannot utilize Rapid Fire.

That is all...for now!

Incorrect information is everywhere in this. Also, you have terrible tips, like ledging and using a shield with HBG. Just terrible.

wtv dude. These guides work for me. I'm pretty sure others will use it and survive.
And i use shield for HBG, its useful. Maybe you haven't unlocked the full potential of these weps. Keep your opinions to yourself when they are negative.

Kaiser, I'm going to be blunt with you: You don't know what you're talking about. Trust me on this.

If you want to know how I'm qualified to say that, look at this video I made.

I'm not fighting "Opinions". I'm fighting misinformation, because I believe educated hunters are the best players of this game. He's publishing terrible tactics and wrong information as fact and it's going to mislead anyone who reads it.

And if he's been playing the game for a month he should learn how to play the game before posting a "guide".

So if hes wrong in info but his tactics are terrible, that almost makes him pro when he manages them Very Happy
So the fact that hes trying to help other ppl is admirable in my opinion.

Mazeron. do not be an ass. you come on here and insult another member and then build yourself up? you are not being a team player and trying to help others along. simply saying he doesn't know what hes talking about? thats insulting. I am warning you on this. change your attitude please. post your videso, they are welcomed, in fact we could do with more. so please add them, but lose the attitude thanks.

bows are good in G rank. If you are new to monster hunter, the best range weapon to use is light bowgun. Its noob-friendly. Bow and heavy bowgun is more for advanced players.

Also bow is cheap, there is no need to buy ammunitions, only coatings which are cheap. But bowgun in the other hand requires ammunitions, and those element shots can cost a bomb if you are very poor.

Element attack up, focus, runner and capacity up. These are some skills that works great on bow users:)

Good luck:)

Bow is cheap?
Bow does minor damage. They are quit hard to control.
GUns in the contrary combine range attacks with high damage....
I mean whats the point f that.
I never got the ideal of guns...
Why they added them in the first place but whathever they are there now so.
But even gunusers state themselves sometimes that they use it coz its so easy so ....

Bows are extremely easy to control and deal low damage. Guns require much more planning and accuracy, are much less mobile and most bullets do good damage only when you're at point blank range. So, you don't have the safety of range, where bow arros do most of their damage.

I'd lean towards whatever has more ease of use, which is the Bow. Bowguns take more positioning and have you closer to the beast. Also, limited ammo, the higher levels of some requiring combining.

Anyway, finally got around to reading this.

Well, being as polite as possible, how well the guide works for the writer doesn't mean a thing. All that matters is if it works for the readers. To make it work for them, it has to be as non-opinionated and factual as possible; no "I'm not really sure" or "whatever works". The writer should be knowledgable enough to *know* that it's true, and be able to confidently tell people that it *is* the way. Anything less makes readers suspicious of the text, because a collection of opinions is the last thing a guide should be.

Either way, someone playing the game for about a month still has a lot to learn and experience, and should probably hold off on the guide writing; it's not the only way to be helpful. At the time of this post, I've had MHFU for two months and three days. I'm capable of helping someone with basics and weapon/armor statistics and what's useful when and where, and even some finer points on most of what's featured in the Elder quests, but I'm far from qualified to write a guide on any subject. I'm better off making posts in discussion threads, because I really don't have that much to say on a given topic.

Wanting to help people is great and all, but inexperience is a poor defense. Guides require an experienced voice.

Getting back to the guide, I'll pass over everything else, but I'm not sure what this means at all. Is it talking about the cutting effect of the melee attack, or the Bow shot itself, which never deals cutting damage? Either way, it's far from a cutting weapon, even if it has a cutting attack. It could easily lead to people picking up a Bow and asking why it refuses to cut a tail off.
